Marine AFC captain, Niall Cummins, celebrating his heroic last-gasp goal against Havant & Waterlooville that sent Marine through to the The Emirates FA Cup third round against Tottenham Hotspur in 2020.
Marine FC is a non-league football club based in Crosby, Liverpool. In 2020, they competed in the Northern Premier League Division One North West (although the league was suspended in 2020 due to Covid) - the 8th tier of English Football.
Marine went on a remarkable FA Cup journey in 2020, beating League Two Colchester United in the first round. The second round fixture was a nail-biting affair that was deadlocked until the 120th minute in extra time. Marine's captain fantastic, Niall Cummins, popped up in the dying seconds with a diving header that sent the Mariners through to an historic third-round tie against Premier League giants, Tottenham Hotspur (then managed by Jose Mourinho).
Spurs were invited to play the tie at Rossett Park, live on BBC 1. The ground actually has domestic gardens backing onto it, so people in the houses were able to watch the game live, despite the lockdown restrictions!
