Sailing Through Time Mural

The "Sailing through Time" mural in Prescot beautifully captures the town’s rich history and artistic influences. The mural is inspired by the historical accounts of ships on the River Mersey using the church clock tower as a navigation point. Created for Knowsley Council as part of the Prescot Heritage scheme, the mural ties together the town's maritime past and its long-standing tradition of watch and clock-making.
Painted in July 2024, the sky in the mural was inspired by a visit to the Van Gogh exhibition, that was running in Liverpool at the time. This adds unique swirl of blue and movement that echoes the dynamic energy of Van Gogh's work.
The clock, a homage to Prescot’s watchmaking history, mirrors elements of Paul's previous Clockmaker Mural (Ormskirk). Meanwhile, the waves depicted in the piece draw inspiration from the design of the Palatine pocket watch, once manufactured in the town. Located on the gable of 12 Church Street, directly opposite Prescot Parish Church, the mural is a public artwork that offers both locals and visitors a chance to reflect on Prescot's heritage and its place in time.
